Reminders and Requests (Updated)

Hi All,

We have a number of activities and events coming up and I will need to hear back from all Troop Families on these upcoming events so we can plan accordingly. More information and detail is (or will be) available on the Troop website.

– Tonight, January 27th: We need to get an initial list of those Scouts (and Adults) that will be going to Summer Camp. PLEASE – have your Scout indicate on the signup sheet if he will be going to Summer Camp. If you are unsure, have your Scout sign up as ‘Maybe’. If the reason you are unsure is because of the cost, please have your Scout signup as “YES”, and then contact me or Michelle Toth to discuss. We will also need Adults. Besides me, I am looking for at least 5 additional men to go. If you are not currently a registered adult leader, but can go with us as an adult, please let me know. Please see the Summer Camp link under “News by Type” to the left for more details on Summer camp. The first $100 deposit for both Scouts and Adults is due by Friday (February 1st), so please bring it tonight if possible.

– February 9th: Scout Sunday @ Cork United Methodist Church followed by a Congregation / Scout Family dinner in the Hall. All Scout Families are strongly encouraged to attend with our new Chartered Organization. The Service begins at 10:30am, and it will be followed by a Fred’s/Grandpa Johnson’s lunch (dinner). We will have a signup sheet at the Troop Meeting for the Scouts. Adults, you may also let the Scoutmaster know if you will be able to attend by email. We need to get an initial headcount this week to estimate the number of meals for the dinner. Also, if you would be able and willing to make a contribution towards the cost of the dinner, please see Michelle or Jackson.

– February 13th: Friends of Scouting Dinner @ HCC Trinkle Center off Park Road. We will need five to ten Scouts (and five to ten Cub Scouts) to come out and participate in the evening’s events from 6:00p – 6:45p. Basically, this just means that I need Scouts, in Uniform, to be at the Trinkle center by 6:00p on the 13th and spend about 45 minutes talking to those attending the dinner, talking about their experience in Scouting and (for Cub Scouts) possibly bringing and showing their Pinewood Derby cars. All those that made Eagle during 2013 are invited to come and be recognized for their achievement.

– February 15th: Sporting Clays Fundraiser. We will need as many of our Scouts as possible to attend as we need to provide at least 16 – 20 volunteers for the event. We will be given a donation for our assistance. There will be a signup sheet at the Troop Meeting for signups. For this event; we’re mostly looking for 13+ as they will be out on the shotgun range (safely) assisting with scoring the tournament. The ask is for Scouts to come out that morning and assist in the event by scoring, or launching clays (the shooter yells “Pull” and the scout, from a safe, out of the way location, pushing the ‘Launch’ button to throw the clay disc out for the shooter to try to shoot; the scorer then marks whether it was a hit or miss). For those 13 and under that will be available to help, the Scoutmaster still needs to know that, as we may need them, paired up with a uniformed adult leader, to have the numbers we need. The event will be 8:00am – 2:00pm and will be held at Fishawk Sporting Clays.

– February 21st – 23rd: February Camp out. We will be camping a little later that usual as the Scouts working on their Cooking Merit Badge need to prepare 5 meals, so we will be staying through lunch on Sunday and returning to the Church closer to 2:30pm. We will have a signup sheet at next Monday’s (February 3rd) Troop Meeting and will be collecting the $15.00 camping fee then as well.

Please see the Troop website, and the Calendar in particular, to keep up with the schedule.

Yours in Scouting,
// Jackson
